The life and work of American artist Tyrus Wong is portrayed in the film, “Tyrus” on the American Masters series from PBS. https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/tyrus-full-film/9317/
Wong’s story is complex: poverty, racism, artistic mastery, personal tragedy and beauty are all woven into his 106 years of life. His ground-breaking contribution to the artistic style of the 1942 Disney film “Bambi” was not recognized until 2001. Wong’s achievements in calligraphy, painting, ceramics, storyboard and kite making are presented in the excellent film by Pamela Tom.
Wong’s dedication to his beloved wife and his caring for her for fifteen years is heartbreaking and inspirational.
