Gabe Brown is a New York painter and educator whom I encountered on the brilliant podcast, “The Savvy Painter with Antrese Wood”. Antrese and her guests generously share their ideas in thoroughly engaging conversations. I was especially grateful for Gabe’s descriptions of her style and her experience of process painting.
Gabe’s academic training and lifetime exposure to art and ideas are evident in her sophisticated and visually engaging works. The images are bold, yet beautifully constrained by the artist’s application of formal concepts to her “alternate universe” depicted in abstract landscapes. It is lovely and validating to hear other painters speak of the process of mark making, evaluation and resolving areas of the composition.
